Are you trying to make a selection and need to zoom in? Don’t despair, just press Ctrl and + to Zoom in. Repeat as needed. The shortcut is Cmd+ on a Mac.
The great thing about using the keyboard shortcut is that you don't have to select the Zoom tool to use it!

To zoom out Ctrl and - Zooms Out (Cmd - on a Mac).
You can even use the shortcut keys when you have a dialog box open, like the color picker, black and white conversion, sharpening filter and more. If you are using quick edit mode or even a guided edit you can also use the same shortcuts.
Watch the video for my tutorial on how to use the zoom tool, but here's a quick reference for the keyboard shortcuts.
- Ctrl+0 (MAC Cmd+0) to see your whole image at once.
- Ctrl+1 (MAC Cmd+1) to see you image at actual pixels.
- Ctrl+ (MAC Cmd+) and Ctrl- (Cmd-) will zoom in and out when you have any tool selected! It's the ultimate shortcut.
So next time you need a closer look, don’t stop what you are doing, just press Ctrl+ and zoom on in!
