Today I have a guest post from the fabulous Ruly to share with you, about how she makes time for scrapbooking - with the help of her mobile phone!
While I get to know more and more about scrapbooking year over year, documenting & reflecting about my story is the key element that fully captures my heart. So, although I have tried traditional scrapbooking and I love to use it for certain occasions, the easiness of going digital is a key enabler for myself to keep active in the hobby.
As full-time manager in a company, entrepreneur in Vive scrapbook, mum, wife, etc., etc., aaaaaand scrapbooker I'm constantly looking for ways to simplify and simplify the process to document & tell my story yet in beautiful ways.
So I started digital scrapbooking using Photoshop Elements some years ago and then I started to focus more on using apps that allows me to scrapbook from my phone. So here I’m going to share my overall process and my tips & tricks:
1 Use the Project Life app to create layouts
This is the more complete app I have found for comprehensive scrapbooking. Becky Higgins definitely rocks it with this. You have entire collections of scrapbooking cards there, some free and some paid (from USD0.99 to 1.99$). It is super friendly as you just need to tap to add photos, tap to add cards and then type in your journaling. If you have used it, I'm sure you're with me!
2 Decorate your layouts by adding overlays
I love to add digital brushes. We have some freebies (in Spanish) that you can access registering here. And also we have a couple of collections for only USD 1.99 availables in our etsy shop.
For using my own elements from my phone I use the app LetterGlow and here you can see a short video on how to do it (so simple!)
Overlays and playing with creativity is part of my process. Here some of my favorite layouts where you can see different styles and tips:
My two favorite apps to edit my pics and add some phrases or images are Little Moments and ABM (A Beautiful Mess), these are the ones used in the previous layouts. In this case, they don't allow you to import and use your own overlays but just the ones that the app brings (so far LetterGlow is the only I've found with this feature of allowing your own overlays).
The following steps 3 and 4 are optional depending on my mood and if I feel like moving further with the specific layouts and the story they hold.
3 Share them
On my personal blog or in our Vive scrapbook blog.
4 Print them 🙂
5 Enjoy them
I go through my pages from time to time, directly in my mobile, in my blog or in my albums. Remembering, feeling gratitude for what I've lived, re-living the moments and keep learning from my own experiences >> This is it! A page can take me 2min or 20min but overall is fast and simple.
Do you scrapbook from your phone? What are your tips & tricks?
Thanks for reading and enjoy your memory keeping whatever is your own process 😉

I love life! I am convinced that living with extreme simplicity is essential for happiness.
Live, love, God are my favorite words.
I got deep in scrapbooking almost two years ago when I and my sister-in-law started thinking in Vive scrapbook. We launched it last year. This is a website offering online scrapbooking classes in spanish and a blog with inspiration about photography, scrapbooking & wellbeing 🙂
6 months ago we launched also our own etsy shop with our handmade jewelry line inspired in photography & scrapbooking, also we offer digital brushes and many other details to inspire you in this beautiful hobby. Take a look!
I sooo love my family. Herson my husband, my two years Juan Diego and my still-in- belly José David (expected Jan 2016) are my main source of happiness. Together we enjoyed the company of a huge extended family.
I studied Industrial Engineering in Venezuela and I have an MBA from the University of Melbourne, Australia. For the last 10 years I have worked in a technology development company. The first years in my own country; then a couple of years in The Philippines and now in Panama where I’ve lived the last 4 years.
I combine my full-time job, my Vive scrapbook enterpreneurship & my family the best I can 😉

Thanks for the post, Ruly. Check out the Phonto app. It allows you to do a page from scratch, not just importing a photo, which is what Letterglow needs – at least LG needed a starting photo the last time I used it. Phonto allows a black canvas beginning, a photo, or exported PL page, its “add image” option allows element usage. I did a whole photo book mixing both types of pages: created in ProjectLife app and finished in Phonto, and created and finished in Phonto. Base app had all options I needed, but you can buy up in backgrounds. Pretty nice app – oh, you can save in 2048×2048 which is good for a 12×12 print if I am not mistaken.

On Android devices, letter glow is not available, and the over and phonto apps do not function the same. I have found PhotoLayers app to allow me up to 10 layers, with shadowing capability. My current favorite way to use apps is to create the layout in PL app, then use pre shadowed elements saved to my Dropbox account, and layer them up in the PhotoLayers app! Pocket scrapping isn’t my strong suit, but finding this workaround to add the elements to my layouts has really helped me branch out to the app more!
