Create a DIY Geometric Heart

Please welcome Karen from Photos Kept Alive who is sharing a gorgeous DIY geometric heart project today.

I'm so excited to be guest posting for Melissa today. I even picked a baby themed kit for my project! Like many crafters, I read a lot of creative blogs. One that I love, where I find wonderful inspiration, is Tatertots & Jello. When I saw their DIY Geometric Heart wall decor, using scrapbooking paper, I knew I wanted to try to recreate that heart as a digi-embellishment.

This heart is actually much easier to create than it might appear within Panstoria Artisan. I'm using the newer version 5, however these steps can be done within Artisan 4 as well.

1. Insert > Shape > Rectangle Even though you're selecting a rectangle, the dimensions are equal for length and width making it a square.

2. I made and arranged three squares to form the body of my heart.

3. Now, we'll cut one of the squares into two triangles to create the borders. Select one square, Cut > Straight > Straight edge Align the cutting tool to two of the square corners and make sure to Keep Both Areas (look for this on the right in Artisan 5).

4. Copy and Paste one triangle several times and position around the three squares to complete your heart.

5. And finally, cut the remaining squares into triangles, matching the rest.

6. All that is left is to fill each triangle with paper. Simply select your paper and Fill Selected Shape. Feel free to pre-select several triangles to fill each with the same paper.

7. My next step was to group all the triangles together. I added a 3D edge for more dimension.

I created a detailed video with these steps that might make it easier for you to see what I'm doing.

After I finished this post, I thought of another tip to make the triangles look stitched. I've posted a quick video of that on my blog today as well.
