Today I've invited Christine Hiester, a fellow author for The Ultimate DIY Bundle, to share with us her gorgeous and simple ideas for adding little mixed media to our pages.
Christine is a self taught mixed media artist and art journaler. After loving art as a child, she stumbled back into the practice as an adult, and found an exciting path for creative and spiritual discovery. Christine is a classical musician by trade, and lives in Ohio with her husband and four children. She leads classes in art journaling locally and is a teacher for the Christian creative ecourse, Made. You can find her at www.barebranchblooming.com,
I used to be a scrapper. I’m sure someday I will again, as my digital photo stash continues to grow along with my four kids, but for now Art Journaling is my main sanity-retaining activity.
Though I started scrapbooking before digital photography was a “thing” (dating myself a bit here), and I now engage with physical art supplies to create, I can definitely see the draw and freedom that digital scrapbooking provides. I would imagine the happy marriage between the two media would hit a sweet spot for many artists and crafters, and someday I assume that is where I will end up. Maybe I’ll even finish my kids’ scrapbooks by the time they have children.
Scrapbooking and Art journaling
- sturdy paper (cardstock, paperboard, watercolor paper)
- snazzy magazines (ones with a lot of color: home decor, travel, high fashion)
- tissue paper (specifically white, but other colors might be fun to sprinkle in there)
- glue stick or simple white glue
- crayons, cheap craft paint, or oil pastels
Enjoy the video and all forms of your creating! And I hope you find lots of techniques to inspire you in my ebook A Year of Art Journaling, nestled among the treasures of the DIY Bundle.

My pleasure Margareta! It’s exciting to think of combining these two creative outlets. I appreciate the opportunity Melissa gave me to connect with you here.
