When you go shopping for digital supplies (or get some freebies!)
A zip file contains one or more files that have been compressed, to reduce file size (more details from Wikipedia).
Designers usually compress their files for upload to digital scrapbooking stores and you need to unzip them before you can use them.
On a Mac, when you download a zip file, it's unzipped automatically, so that's easy! You then move the folder out of your download folder to your preferred location.
On Windows you can use the Extract (Compressed Folder Tools) to extract the files to a location of your choice.
Watch this video to see how!
To unzip files on Windows 11, follow these steps:
- Open File Explorer
- Navigate to the folder containing the zipped file
- Click on the the Extract all
- Click browse to select the location for your unzipped files
- Click Extract
- A new File Explorer window will appear showing the extracted files
And there you have it! Your files are now unzipped and ready to use on Windows 11.
Happy organizing!
