I love seeing what scrapbookers are creating from around the world. Today I've invited Sonja to share what she's creating. This beautiful page was a hybrid creation. Please give Sonja a warm welcome! I hope her page inspire you too!

Meet Sonja
Sonja is based in West Columbia, South Carolina and has been a scrapbooker since 1997.
What inspires you to create?
A prompt, a photo, a sketch, a story, a kit, a new tool, new supplies, someone else’s layout, a new technique, rediscovered old supplies….
This was my prompt from Layout a Day. Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (Marilyn Monroe) – 1953. How do you put on a show for the world? What kind of physical/psychological armour do you put on? In honour of ‘Diamond’s are a Girl’s Best Friend’ performance, use some bling on your layout!
I decided to take this prompt in a different direction. I thought about “Gentlemen Prefer Blondes” and Marilyn Monroe, and decided to create a layout about how I always wanted to be a blonde, but never have been!
Journalling
My mother is German and a beautiful, blue-eyed blonde. My father is Puerto Rican and his dominant genes made me a brown-eyed brunette. I’ve always wanted to be a blonde. I even asked my hairdresser to make me one. Since he was a consultant for a professional hair products company, I trusted his judgement. He dissuaded me. He told me that blonde hair, with my skin color and dark brown eyebrows, would look fake. I thought about it and believed him. Many years later, I took a different approach and had highlights added to my hair. I really liked that look! I wasn’t blonde, but at least I didn’t look fake!
Create the Look
I started with the #153-12X12-SketchSavvy sketch by Susan Stringfellow, released Monday, November 2, 2015, and available here.
The background creme cardstock is from the Craft Smith, Hot Buy “Neutrals” Paper Pad with Texture #MPP0051 (2014).
The edges were inked with a Dragonfly Black ColorBox, Cat’s Eye, Pigment Brush Pad.
I printed my journaling directly on the cardstock, using a custom font made from my handwriting, on an Epson Stylus Photo R1900 wide format printer.
The photo mats are as follows:
- The metallic gold and the plaid papers are unknown.
- The speckled, pale green patterned paper is from the “Designer Card Stock Tote” I got at A.C. Moore.
- The photo mats were edged using a Tsukineko Co, Ltd., StāzOn Stone Gray Solvent Ink Pad #SZ-32.
- The strips of washi tape are unknown.
- The glitter tape is Heidi Swapp, Marquee Love, 2" Lime Green Glitter Tape #AC-369797 (2014).
- The speckled yellow, solid green and glitter seafoam patterned papers were scraps. They were edged using the “Stone Gray” ink pad.
The circle was cut using the Creative Memories Custom Cutting System’s large circle, on the inside, using the blue blade.
The tag was hand cut. The corners were notched using a generic, office-supply, single-hole, hand punch. The tag’s overlay is the same speckled, pale green patterned paper from the A.C. Moore Designer Card Stock Tote.
The glitter seafoam was cut using a Creative Memories 1.5" heart punch.
The black stitch lines are rub-ons from “Stitch-in-Time” Rub On Stitching Multi-Pack, QVC item # F00758 000000.
The title letters are as follows:
- The gold letters are American Crafts, Thickers, Dear Lizzy “Desktop” Puffy Letter Stickers #340202 (2015).
- The black word is American Crafts, Thickers, Dear Lizzy “Snapshots” Foam Phrase Stickers #340199 (2015).
The date and “photographed on” were stamped on the photo mat using an American Crafts, Dear Lizzy, BEST. DAY. EVER. Roller Date Stamp #59160 (2011), and the Stone Gray ink pad.
