Inside my Album: Shannan

September 11, 2019 By Melissa Shanhun Leave a Comment

I love seeing what digital scrapbookers are creating from around the world. Today I've invited Shannan (Shannan_Pages on Instagram) to share what she's creating. I was excited to discover that she's a fellow Aussie too -  please give Shannan a warm welcome! I hope her pages inspire you too!

About Shannan

I’m Shannan Manton and I live in Sydney. I started scrapbooking about eleven years ago then moved into digital a year or two later because I was doing a lot of hybrid scrapbooking anyway and I got tired of packing my mess away when we needed to use the table. I started out at 12x12 then made more 8.5x11 pages because I could print those at home. In 2017 I tried 6x8 pages and loved it - scrapping all my pages that size until this year when I decided on the Blurb 5x8. That hasn’t been too much of a change, I think of it as a digital traveler’s notebook.

What Inspires Me

I just love scrapbooking so much. Spending time at my desk making pages and projects is my ‘happy place’ and I look forward to spending time there.
I get inspiration from the scrapbooking community (via Facebook and Instagram mostly) and my favourite digital designers, but I’m also inspired by non-scrapbook related design in magazines and books, especially when it comes to type, colours and composition.

Favourite Recent Projects

This year I’ve decided to make my every-day scrapbook pages at 5x8 so I can print them as a Blurb Trade Book (photo book) rather than print and store in albums and page protectors. I like how much smaller the books are on my shelf and how much easier they are to look through. I’ve also had problems with my favourite 6x8 scrapbook albums becoming discontinued every time I settle on one, so books it is.
I’ve already printed my January-June book (here’s my blog post with more information). I’m now working on part two. My style is very minimal.
Here are three recent projects:

I’ve been a bit immersed in the sixties lately after watching Once Upon A Time In Hollywood and some 50th Anniversary documentaries about Woodstock. The ‘Play' word art and word stickers come from Ali Edwards’ latest Story Kit - Play. I like that the word has a sixties feel and I thought the pink/orange colour scheme went with that theme too. To make the background, I made a large rectangle, filled it in with the orange colour and slanted it across the page. I added a small selfie and a quote from the movie Ferris Bueller’s Day off to finish.
This one is a double 5x8 spread using digital elements from the Kellie Stamps ‘Ugh' digital stamp set (I’m on Kellie’s digital team). For the left side, I enlarged a journal card as the background to fill the page and added the Nope sticker on top. On the right, I repeated the 'ummm..no’ stamp, bringing in the pink from the left page and making it lighter each time by changing the opacity. I also cut out the word ’nope’ from the larger sticker to use on the bottom (also pink).
This is another 5x8 page. I used a journal card from the Paislee Press “Autumn Vibes” kit (its an older one) as the base, I just had to enlarge it a bit to fit my page. I changed the colours to match the red of the coffee cup (the original card is gold) then added the title in a similar font as well as some journaling beneath. The coffee cup flag at the top is from an Ali Edwards’ kit.

Printer & Paper

Before going the photo-book route this year, I always printed my pages at home. I've had a few Canon Pixmas over the years and my current printer is an Epson Expression Photo (XP-8500). I love using the Ilford Galerie Smooth Pearl paper or the Epson Ultra Premium Luster paper.
Thanks so much Shannan for sharing your gorgeous pages with us!
