Inside Rita’s Album: Community Spotlight

July 11, 2018 By Melissa Shanhun Leave a Comment

Every day members of the Digital Scrapbooking HQ community are scrapbooking and I wanted to share some of my favourite projects with you.

Today I've invited Rita Winter to share what she's creating - please give Rita a warm welcome! I love that she's telling family history in these pages. I hope her pages inspire you too.

What inspires you to create?

I think my DNA makes me create. LOL! Most of the paper stuff I make, like making my own greeting cards using photos I've taken, look like "Rita had a kindergarten moment." When I found out about digi-scrapping it just seemed to fit.

I'm occupied by digi-scrapping my family history, although I'm not especially organized in doing it. I started out by scrapping my Great-Great Grandparents who were Mennonite immigrants from Switzerland. Pretty organized with that one, then on to my Great Grandparents who came with their parents as immigrants, then on to my Grandparents, and that's where I sort of dropped the ball. Not really organized with them, got sidetracked doing photos of my Mother. So, in short, I guess you could say it's my ancestors that are my inspiration.

What supplies did you use?

Virgie Dottie Digital Scrapbook PageThe first layout I shared was created using the following supplies:

  • ABD Designs paper
  • the label is by Sahin Designs
  • the flower embellishment is from Scrap Girls Rustic Reflections collection.

Lee Chatelain Digital Scrapbook PageThe second layout supplies:

  • The page entitled Lee Chatelain p 3 uses labels are also from Sahin Designs, as well as the same rose/floral tag embellishment.
  • The other embellishments are from...from...I have NO idea! It's one of the first pages I ever made.
  • The frames are by EBA (whoever that is) but I changed the color of them
  • the numbers are from GWH Family Ties. Then I used the 1920 United States Federal Census, and cut just the portion of it pertaining to this part of the family out and pasted it on top, so it's easier to read.

Rhubard Digital Scrapbook PageThe third layout supplies:

  • The Rhubarb page uses embellishments from a collection called "Grandma's Kitchen" by GWH at http://www.scrapgirls.com. I only bought the embellishments, not the entire kit. Last time I looked the biggie kit of Grandma's Kitchen was on sale.
  • The "paper" I used for the background is a photo I took of my own rhubarb patch. LOL

What printer or other supplies did you use?

I create my pages in size 8.5x11 so I can print them at home. I put them in plastic page protectors and put them in a 3 ring binder. I may do them as a book someday, when/if I ever get them all completed. I print on a Canon Pixma MX922 printer which does a great job of printing. I'm NOT going to make a pitch for that printer, other than to say it prints beautiful photos. It's just sort of clunky to use.

Did you use any special techniques?

The only special technique I used in making this first page was some brush work using standard PSE 15 brushes to soften the edge of the photo.

How long have you been scrapping/crafting?

I started digi-scrapping in Sept. 2017, but as I said, had been creating my own greeting cards using photos I've taken and cardstock paper for quite a while. I put stickers on those. LOL!

Rita

My name as the world knows me is just Rita Rita. Been Rita Rita all my life, usually said as someone is shaking their head in disbelief at something I've done. 😀 I am located in Wyoming, United States where the winters are long, and where God spends His summers.

Care to Share?

I’d love to see what you are working on this week. Do you have a layout or two to share? You can add a picture to the comments below.

Happy Scrapping!
