Inside my Album: He Said, She Said

January 4, 2017 By Melissa Shanhun 2 Comments

Each week I share a scrapbook layout to give you a little sneak peek into what I’m scrapping, and inspire you to play with pretty pixels too.

Today I'm sharing a layout I made for True Scrap 7  using the "Unscrapped Old Photos Prompt". He Said, She Said is the perfect opportunity to compare your memories of any event with the memories of your spouse, child, friend...

Layout: He Said, She Said

She said, He Said - Digital Scrapbook Layout

How I did it

As soon as I saw the prompt, he said/she said I knew I had to document how Phill and I first went on a date. I had written up a bit of a blurb on the topic when we got engaged (Sept 2006) and Phill heartily disagrees with my understanding of his motives. I've always said he would see that no-one sends flowers as a joke (even 'unromantic' flowers). But, 9 years on, he's stuck to his side of the story. I could have told this story at the time, but I now know that this is Phill's story and he's sticking to it!

I copied the journalling from our old wedding website (remember when they were all the rage?) and for the "He Said" section wrote down some of the things Phill often says when I tell this story.

For the design, I used photos of us from the time. My photo is from the day he sent the flowers (July 2007) and his is the only photo I have of him from around that time (April 2007 when we were at a wedding rehearsal for mutual friends).

I split the page down the centre to add to the he said/she said theme. I used wood and some touches of blue on Phill's side of the page, to represent him and a more pink, softer look for mine.

Journaling

She Said:
Phill started e-mailing me about Russ and Ky’s wedding, then regularly about general stuff. I didn't think much of it. Then one Tuesday he sent me a long e-mail talking about work and jobs he'd been looking at, with the subject line - "work is quiet... too quiet". I was so busy at work that it took me until Friday to reply! I changed the subject line to "work is busy... too busy" and I said I'd made it top priority to reply to his e-mail, which must have touched him. we e-mailed a bit more that day. Then on the Monday a box of flowers appeared with an anonymous note saying "For someone whose work is busy, too busy” I guessed it was Phill, tried to call, without luck, then wrote an e-mail to say thanks and I said he should look me up next time he was in Perth, which he did. That was our first date. Photo July 2006; Journalling September 2006

He Said:
You always just replied to my emails without a full signature and then on Friday, last thing, you sent me an email with all your address details, so you must have been hinting at something. I just sent flowers as a joke. No, I'd never sent flowers to a girl at work before, but that's the kind of thing you do when you are bored and have spare money lying around. You were the one who asked me out! Besides, that first ‘date’ was just coffee... and lunch, I was up in Perth for a Buck’s night. Photo April 2006; Journalling October 2015
