Get Organized: Photos – Work Along Class

July 21, 2015 By Melissa Shanhun 3 Comments

Do you have so many photos you don\'t know what to do?

Do you need a little bit of hand-holding while you take the plunge and sort out your photos once and for all? You're in luck! Coming very soon I'll be hosting a work along for my Get Organized: Photos class. Since my Get Organized: Photos class launched in 2013, hundreds of students have gone through the course and found photo peace. Inside Get Organized: Photos there's 5 lessons with 15-minute challenges to get you working through your photos using my simple but effective method. Here's what some students have said:

I really want to move forward with PSE, and you have given me the courage to do so. - Renee

You just saved me hours of organizing with your metadata searches - what a timesaver! - Marina

FAQs

What is a Work Along Class?

A work along class is a live session where I will guide you through self-paced class and add some videos with extra tips and a chance for you to ask your questions right here at Digital Scrapbooking HQ. For 5 days, I'll be sharing a post on the site that will include:

    • A quick video about one aspect of photo organizing
  • A link to the Egg Timer site so you can get to work in a short 15-minute burst
  • A chance for you to comment and share your progress

Is this the same as your paid class?

No. This Work Along is designed to be a supplement to Get Organized: Photos class. You'll get much more out of the class if you refer to the handouts in  Get Organized: Photos. So, if you haven't already enrolled DO IT NOW 🙂 I'll wait.

Do I need Get Organized: Photos?

Yes. The daily videos are going to follow along with the prompts from each day of the Get Organized: Photos class. Of course, you are welcome to register without first purchasing Get Organized: Photos, but some the overall organizing process may not be that obvious from just the Work Along materials.

Why is this Work Along free?

Because I'm awesome! (And you are too!) Ok, serious answer. I would like to give everyone a chance to actually follow along and get value from the purchases they have made in the past. This Work Along is also an opportunity for you to see some newer tips and features from PSE13 and to join in with a community of people taking this class together.

Happy organizing!

Organizing photos and supplies. When you use PSE to do both does it move the files from their location on your hard drive or does that stay intact and it is a reference. Is it hard to set up both- if I want to have separate catalogs or are they combined. I have your class on photo organization and before I purchase the supply class I want to understand how they work. I have not set up my photos yet. I have a Mac and was using iPhoto.
How is the face recognition? I loved that feature on iPhoto. Thanks! Renee

      Hi Renee

Photoshop Elements just references and creates thumbnails for the files on your hard drive. Your photos are kept where they are on your hard drive.

It’s not hard at all to set up a separate catalog for specific purposes. It’s just as easy as creating a new file. Unlike Lightroom, you don’t need to close out of the program to switch catalogs either.

I use two catalogs one for photos and one for supplies.

The face recognition is great! I have found it equal to Picasa and iPhoto in my experience. It’s a slightly different workflow, but you won’t take long to adjust. You’ll love that PSE has so much more control than the new Photos app does.
