Inside my Album: Royal Show

September 5, 2014 By Melissa Shanhun 6 Comments

Each week I share a scrapbook layout to give you a little sneak peek into what I’m scrapping, and inspire you to play with pretty pixels too.

Today I’m sharing a page from my family album about our version of a 'country fair' or agricultural show- the Perth Royal Show. It's held at the Claremont Showgrounds for a week  each year beginning on the Queen's birthday long weekend at the end of September.

This layout was about our 2012 trip to the show, my first ever if you can believe that! In 2011, I was too ill with morning sickness to go, so Phill took Emily by himself (You can see my page here). In 2013, we were over east at Seaworld so we missed the show.

Layout: Royal Show

Take a look inside my album to see a layout about the Royal Show! #digiscrap #digital #scrapbooking

Create the look

For lots of photos you'll find it easier to use a two page template. I used Yin_template 341 to get a lot of photos onto the page. I kept the embellishing simple and love how the colorful alphas turned out.

The process:

  • Select your photos
  • Clip them to the photo spots
  • Apply a consistent border style around all the photos
  • Write your journalling. I used my handwriting font for the journalling.
  • Select a kit to use. For me this was quick and easy: I used the same kit, Dani Mogstad County Fair, as I did for my 2011 Royal show layout.
  • Add your background papers
  • Add a title with alphas
  • Embellish

If you aren't familiar with working with two page spreads, here's how you can print it in a photobook.

Journaling

Edward and Mummy’s first Royal Show started with a train trip through the city to Claremont.

We had the 2012 Perth Show iPhone app to help us navigate our way around. We saw the presentation of the miniature horse prizes - Phill loves miniature horses.

Then is was off to the animal petting area and Emily patted a rabbit (EJ did too!) pig goat alpaca and more. We met Grandma and Grandad Shanhun for morning tea at the Sheepdog Trials.

We also went through the City Farmer’s Pavilion but Mummy and EJ took a rest. Edward slept maybe 20mins at the show, until sideshow alley woke him with all the noise.

We queued up for Emily’s favourite Dumbo ride and she even got to hook a duck. We stopped for lunch and picked a Bertie Beetle showbag for us. Then headed home. Tired - but happy.

What a fun day! I can’t believe you’ve never been before.

I enjoy volunteering at the Alaska State Fair in the Handwork and Needlework department. I have pictures to post on my blog of the day four of us demonstrated embroidery and crochet last week. I want to use some of your scrapping techniques on my blog photos. They could be a lot more interesting than they usually are.

Thanks Margareta. I think my pages are often more contemplative so this bright one was a bit of a stretch!
